Children's product recalls can lead to devastating outcomes, P. 2

In today's post, we continue our discussion on children's product recalls. While we may know general facts about the different recalls that have happened, it can be a good idea to understand what kind of issues different types of children's products may have in terms of safety.

Here are some different products and the issues that have been associated with them that led to a recall or corrective action:

--Cradles or bassinets: entrapment or suffocation, entanglement hazards, risk of falling, risk of injury from tipping

--Cribs: choking and strangulation hazards, suffocation or entrapment risk, non-compliance with safety standards, fall risk, risk of laceration

--Strollers: bad breaks, faulty seat belts or buckles, risk of laceration or amputation, strangulation risk, risk of stroller collapsing, fall risks

--High chairs: risk of product collapsing, faulty belts and straps, risk of falling

--Toddler beds: risk of entrapment between side guard rails or footboard, risk of head entrapment or asphyxiation

--Walkers: risk of product tipping over or collapsing, laceration risk, loose screws leading to choking hazard, risk of falling down stairs

--Baby gates: hardware can break or crack, detaching the gate and giving access to restricted areas, gate may crack, causing small pieces to break off

These are just some of the issues that have been seen related to children's products. As you can see, some of these issues can be extremely dangerous. In some cases, the issue may have been caught during product testing, but in other cases the issue was discovered after a child was injured or killed.
