This is why when police cars, ambulances and fire trucks come down the road, most cars get out of the way.<\/p>\n<p>But should this rationale apply to the drivers of emergency vehicles themselves? Conventional wisdom would suggest that it would. After all, they have to follow the rules of the road just like everyone else, and they must check to see if intersections are clear and safe before passing through them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0CB8QFjAAahUKEwiupe20ta_HAhXBkg0KHdhlA8s&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.local10.com%2Fnews%2Ffire-truck-overturns-in-miami-crash%2F34656434&amp;ei=dnXRVa6SLsGlNtjLjdgM&amp;usg=AFQjCNHiGByGTOwUczelvy0_RX4hArWk0A&amp;sig2=LYNeFSjcAvimtil47M-20A&amp;bvm=bv.99804247,d.eXY\" target=\"_blank\">accident<\/a> involving an ambulance and a fire truck in Florida suggests that the driver of one, or both, vehicles were not paying attention. According to an ABC News.com report, the two vehicles were responding to separate emergencies but had to cross paths at an intersection.
