There are two main reasons for this.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, as with other types of civil claims, many slip and fall cases are settled out of court. The defendant agrees to pay a certain sum of money to the plaintiff (sometimes without actually admitting liability), and the plaintiff agrees to accept that sum and dismiss his or her case.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, a significant number of cases are resolved via summary judgment procedure.
